Morgan Freeman tells of an ‘annoying’ Graham Norton in ‘Shawshank’-esque talk show narration

Before Morgan Freeman became the go-to voice for narration or God, he mastered the art of the voice-over with his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Red   in The Shawshank Redemption, a role he briefly stepped back into on The Graham Norton Show. “I could see why some people took him for annoying.”

After insulting Norton’s walk and heavy drinking, as well as wishing Caine would stop talking, Freeman concluded with one wish. Appearing alongside his Going in Style costar and fellow Michael Caine, the eponymous host ask Freeman to reenact his character’s introduction of Shawshank’s newest prisoner Andy (Tim Robbins), but with a slight Norton-related twist. “I hope people stop asking me to do stupid voice-overs like this,” he said. “I must admit I didn’t think much of Graham Norton first time I laid eyes on him,” Freeman began. “I hope.”
