Branching out with the Village Chorale

The groups collaborated again in 2015, this time featuring talented instrumentalists from Hot Springs Village and Hot Springs.    Showcase of the Arts, a fall event in 2013-2015, gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the visual, creative and performing arts in the community. The beauty of the chapel and the enthusiasm of an audience already in the Christmas spirit created an instant connection between the Chorale and the city.In 2014, while president of the Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild, Kelly brought the Chorale together with the Hot Springs Festival Chorus for a scholarship benefit concert at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, featuring the Symphony’s Rockefeller String Quartet.  Another now-annual event also began in 2012. Preparing for any concert is a collaborative effort, requiring singers to work in harmony within their vocal sections as a chorus and with director Ellen Nagode and accompanist Kristen La Madrid. Over the years the Chorale has also enjoyed collaborating with other area singers and musicians and branching out to perform at different venues in Hot Springs. Since then, the Chorale has been asked to participate in “Christmas in the Village” every year. The choruses blended together in song under Festival Chorus director Lynn Payette and Chorale director Nagode. The excitement generated by working with a conductor of the caliber of Philip Mann was equaled by the thrill of sharing the stage with this incredible symphony.  Spearheaded by then-Chorale president Jim Kelly, in 2012 the Chorale was privileged to be included in the Arkansas Symphony’s annual Christmas concert at Woodlands Auditorium. The Chorale presented its first Christmas concert in Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens, broadening its audience to the people of the greater Hot Springs area. The $12 general admission tickets are also available from any Chorale member. The Village Chorale’s mini-concert was one of several vocal, dramatic and instrumental highlights during those events.Visit to buy tickets to “Why We Sing,” the Village Chorale’s 20th anniversary concert.
