‘Captain Marvel’ screenwriter talks writing Marvel’s first female-led movie

She’s an incredibly strong and wonderful hero, but all the Marvel characters are.”
And if you have gripes with Larson’s casting, since the 27-year-old Oscar winner will be playing   a successful member of the Air Force, Perlman isn’t too concerned about it. Nicole Perlman is busy crafting the script for the film, which stars Brie Larson as the superhumanly strong Carol Danvers, and she addressed the responsibility of writing Marvel’s first female-led movie in a recent interview. Captain Marvel is all Larson. “I don’t think the age is going to be an issue. Also, obviously by the time the film comes out and by the time they finish shooting, Brie will be a lot older than when she was announced.”
Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019. “I had to consult with the Air Force yesterday and I brought up the age issue and they said that it was not out of the realm of possibility, that somebody could be very accomplished in the Air Force between the age of 28-34 and that you could go very far within that time,” she said. Black Widow may never   get her own movie, but The   Avengers will be less of a boy’s club when Captain Marvel arrives. Feige later teased, “When   she’s introduced [in the films], she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had.”
Perlman explained of the process, “Since Marvel has done so many movies already, you really have to go out of your way to make sure her story is fresh and doesn’t borrow too heavily from the other films. To be fair, Evangeline Lilly will technically be the first woman to headline a   release from the MCU, but she shares the Ant-Man and The Wasp title   with Paul Rudd. The results give her superhuman strength, flight, durability, and concussive force blasts from her hands. “I think that making sure that Captain Marvel is not somebody who is a hero in spite   of her femininity is really important,” Perlman said on   The Great Big Beautiful Podcast. Show Full Article “She’s a very strong character and her being a woman is part of that strength.”
She added, “There are things you wouldn’t think twice about Iron Man but you might think twice about for Captain Marvel.”
Many characters in the comics have used the named Captain Marvel, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed Larson to play Carol Danvers, a member of the Air Force whose DNA is spliced together with that from the alien Kree race.

Foo Fighters, Stevie Nicks honor Tom Petty with electric MusiCares charity concert

Earlier, he ribbed the president’s knack for inflating facts by claiming Trump would likely claim to have won several Grammys himself. Grammys weekend kicked off with a bang Friday at the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year Concert. Ed Helms served as the night’s emcee and the actor lightened the mood with pointed political jokes — along with a few bombs. Moments before, Petty remarked about his wild musical ride and recalled some sage advice he had received from Johnny Cash in a letter. I’m gonna keep riding that river.”
The MusiCares Foundation, which provides financial and medical support for ailing members of the music industry, also had a reason to celebrate. They put Elvis in the Army and Chuck Berry in jail and things calmed down for a few years but it was too late. Are you out there?” Jones asked. The Foo Fighters, Stevie Nicks, the Bangles, Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, George Strait, ELO’s Jeff Lynne, Randy Newman, and more came out to celebrate Petty’s indelible catalog of music — and his charitable contributions — with a nearly three-hour all-star salute. “[It said] you’re a good man to ride the river with. The music reached England…and I joined the conspiracy to put black popular music on the white radio.”
After thanking his peers and a newer generation of artists like Cage the Elephant and the Head and the Heart, who also performed that night, Petty strapped on a guitar to perform some of his quintessential tunes — and he was backed by surprise guests including the Bangles, Stevie Nicks, and ELO’s Jeff Lynne, who was also a member of Petty’s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. The gala, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, honored Tom Petty — and the Grammy-winning rock icon was toasted by a top shelf of his friends and peers. Show Full Article And that’s all I wanna be — a good man to ride the river with. “I love you, Tom Petty — where are you? “It empowered the youth of America and the government got really nervous,” he said, referring to rock and roll’s rise in the 1950s. After all, it’s hard to work a change on bulletproof FM classics that are perfect to begin with. The singer-songwriter set up in the middle of the room on a rotating dais to perform Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1979 hit “Refugee” — a fitting selection given the controversy surrounding Trump’s travel ban — which Newman turned from an amped-up rocker into a ruminative ballad. But naturally, it was the music that took center stage throughout the star-studded dinner, which counted the Beatles’ Ringo Starr and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi as guests. But towards the end of the night, he came out to receive a trophy from NARAS president Neil Portnow and gave a touching, somewhat politicized speech about rock and roll’s place in American culture. The tribute concert started with a performance by Grammy-winning icon Randy Newman. For the most part, the performers stayed true to Petty’s original arrangements. “Especially Republicans. “I would do a Donald Trump joke about Russia but there’s literally nothing funny about Donald Trump and Russia,” he said at one point, while introducing the Russian singer-songwriter Regina Spektor. While recalling how the music had originated with African-Americans before becoming popularized by the white radio DJ Alan Freed, he commented about how rock still has the ability to change the world — and question authority. Portnow shared with the audience that this year’s auction and dinner broke all previous records with $8.5 million dollars raised. That set — featuring hits like “Don’t Come Around Here No More” and “Running Down a Dream” along with deeper cuts like “Insider,” which he had originally penned for Nicks — led the crowd to abandon their gilded dinner tables and flood towards the stage. George Strait ignited the house with a twangy take on Petty’s “You Wreck Me.” Norah Jones added subtle countrified flair to “Time to Move On” and “You Don’t Know How It Feels.” And the Foo Fighters, along with guitarist Gary Clark Jr., ignited the room with a raucous cover of his 1985 tune “Breakdown.”
Throughout the concert, Petty remained elusive; he mostly observed from backstage.

Dave Bautista joins Jodie Foster in thriller ‘Hotel Artemis’

The Guardians of the Galaxy and Bladerunner 2049 star is sticking with sci-fi — albeit light sci-fi. Pearce wrote Iron Man 3 and the adjoining One Shot short film “All Hail the King,” and he’s been announced as the screenwriter behind the Hulu original series The Runaways. Bautista is a force to be reckoned with — a powerful presence who’s equal parts strength and soulfulness,” Pearce said in a statement. The actor, who also featured in the James Bond film Spectre, was recently spotted in the thriller   Bushwick at the Sundance Film Festival and can be seen opposite Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in   Denis Villeneuve’s Bladerunner sequel. In the film, which Pearce also wrote, Foster plays a nurse in the near future who runs   an underground hospital for sinister criminals in Los Angeles. “I’m a true fan, and it’s a privilege to have him in the world of Hotel Artemis.”

“Comm says right now I’m like a sinner / Mix me up y’all / You can put me in a blender.”

Brad of ‘Survivor: Game Changers’ says Culpepper family bragging rights are at stake

But make no mistake, I need to get as far as Monica made, at least, in order to do that. Water season, his wife Monica made it all the way to the end. I would have hated to be introduced as like Russell coming back from the season before.… A little bit apprehensive, especially when he said, ‘Oh, these two, just like Russell.’ I was like ‘Oh, if they’re anything like Russell, we need to get rid of them fast.”

What do you think people think of you, Brad? I can be, but I think I’m a lot more than that. (Also make sure to follow @thedaltonross on Instagram to see exclusive on-location photos, including one of Brad casting his pre-game vote for whom he’d like to vote off first.)
Robert Voets/CBS
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: People would accuse you of having an ego, but how do you manage the other egos out here? Because in my alliance on Blood vs. If I were able to do that, then you’d have to put down the Culpepper name with the Boston Rob, Amber names as Survivor family big time players. Brad takes pride in the fact that while his torch may have been snuffed early during that Blood vs. How you deal with the players you don’t know from last season? There’s only one spot better than where she got. The perception of me that I think I’m going to have to battle is potentially that I’m just a man’s man, a guy’s guy. The season I played in Blood vs. Water we had a guy alliance, there may be a perception I’m just a bro-down type of guy. There’s a lot at stake here. They are. When Jeff introduced them to us —   both of them, Zeke and Michaela —   he mentioned Russell’s name with them and I didn’t like that. Watch the video above and read the Q&A below to see what Brad has to say about all of that and more. She said wake up every single morning and imagine that you are going home that day   because you are unless you do something about it. So for whatever reason —   I have no regrets, it went awesome, Monica did great and I wouldn’t change a thing — I was not able to play Survivor as it’s been played. I’m happy to go to the end with them. That’s not the way that I want to portray myself and I really don’t plan on doing that. If I’m normally a 10 personality, I’m going to try to rein it down to at least a 5 or 6 until I need to bring it back to a 10 towards later. I say that because unfortunately I had to play with somebody on another tribe, who I cared for her Survivor life more than I did my own. We asked big bad Brad about Culpepper family bragging rights, what sort of advice his finalist wife gave him before he left, and what he believes other players out there think of him. It’s a very selfish game. I think in order for me to win, there are a lot of bro-down guys I do not want to go to the end with. Water was unlike any other season they’ve had. BRAD CULPEPPER: Well, clearly they’re all going to be intimidated by me because I almost made the jury. Monica’s been on Survivor, I don’t know 55, 60 days? But I think with so many people trying to be Geppetto of this game, I’m happy to let them assume I’m Pinocchio for as long as I need to until I don’t need to be that anymore. It could be Cirie and Sandra. Show Full Article What advice did she give you? This is your second time out, so are Culpepper house bragging rights at stake here? This is why I've never read a single word of Harry Potter. Rowling dragged Piers Morgan via Twitter on Saturday, mocking the commentator as a “celebrity toady” for his defense of President Donald Trump. It all started when the Harry Potter author retweeted video of Morgan’s appearance on Friday night’s episode of Real Time With Bill Maher. https://t.co/8rkKSqJTnG

The fact-free, amoral, bigotry-apologism of celebrity toady Piers Morgan is, of course, why it's so delicious to see him told to fuck off. To which Rowling replied, “Because you had a premonition that one day the author would roar with laughter at seeing you called out for your bullsh– on live TV?”
The haymakers continued, with Rowling asking Morgan if he wanted to create fake photos “of refugees carrying explosives to substantiate your position?” (Morgan was fired as editor of the Daily Mirror in 2004 for publishing fabricated photos of British soldiers torturing an Iraqi prisoner.) After Morgan wrote that the “superior, dismissive arrogance of rabid Remain/Clinton supporters like [Rowling] is, of course, precisely why both campaigns lost,” the author shot back: “The fact-free, amoral, bigotry-apologism of celebrity toady Piers Morgan is, of course, why it’s so delicious to see him told to f— off.”
To cap off the battle, Rowling later retweeted another Twitter user who had found an entire column Morgan had written in 2015 using Harry Potter references, a contradiction of his earlier tweet stating he had “never read a single word” of Rowling’s signature work. I consider this a serious failure in my parenting skills.”

Keanu Reeves teases ‘Bill & Ted 3’ details

“The writers had a story and we’re trying to make it,” Reeves said, explaining the possible film would pick up with the title characters (played by Alex Winter and Reeves) in their 50s. But then someone comes from the future and tells them if they don’t write the song it’s just not the world, it’s the universe. “The thing we had going against us is that word got out,” he said in an interview with Yahoo. Now we’re having to build this thing in public, which is fine. Show Full Article Basically, they’re supposed to write a song to save the world and they haven’t done that yet,” Reeves said. I just feel bad [the fans] have to get dragged through this long, boring, protracted process.”
The original Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure was released in 1989; a sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, arrived in 1991. “In one version we’re in jail; in another, we’re at some kind of highway motel and they hate us.”
In 2014, Winter explained that the process of making a third Bill & Ted film was ongoing. During an appearance on this week’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, Keanu Reeves teased plot details for Bill & Ted 3. “We go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future ‘us’ refuses to tell us, and another future ‘us’ blames us for their lives because we didn’t write the song, so they’re living this terrible life,” Reeves said at the time. Excellent. It just takes a long time to put a movie together. “There’s a cool story. “That was kind of a bummer. All the way back in 2012, the John Wick: Chapter 2 star teased a similar plot for the threequel in an interview with GQ. “So the pressure of having to save the world — their marriages are falling apart, their kids are kind of mad at them. So they have to save the universe because time is breaking apart.”
This isn’t the first time Reeves has discussed the film’s plot.
