From ‘Frasier’ to ‘Fargo’: Jean Smart dishes on biggest roles

We didn’t have the freedom that the story needs,” she says. She played Shari, a secretary having an affair with the principal. The 65-year-old actress has appeared on dozens of TV shows, and yet her character on Legion, Melanie Bird, manages to be different from anything she’s played before. Smart received good reviews for her performance but wishes the timing had been different. That show was so intelligent and so screamingly funny. The film’s starry cast included Natalie Portman, Ian Holm, Peter Sarsgaard, and Jim Parsons (in one of his first roles). Smart quickly discovered that Hollywood was different from the New York stage scene — “warm-ups” referred to a comic for the studio audience, not vocal exercises, for example — something she marveled over with her agent after her first live taping. 2007-09

There has to be a relationship. Spike TV announced that   TIME: The Kalief Browder Story will debut the first of six parts on Wednesday, March 1 at 10 p.m. He spent three years on Rikers Island — two of which were in solitary confinement — though he was never convicted. “A young man, and I emphasize young man, who lost his life because of a broken system. “If Kalief Browder’s life matters, then his whole life matters, and that’s how we have been approaching this project.”
Jay Z spoke about the project back in October during a press conference, in which he addressed police brutality. There has to be respect on both sides.”
