Wale drops video for J. Cole diss track ‘Groundhog Day’

Cole’s diss track “False Prophets,” which upon release last year seemed directed at Wale and Kanye West. He wastes no time firing back at J.Cole, opening the track with the lyrics, “I’m heavily flawed/But far from a false prophet.” Wale’s references to the 2014 Forest Hills Drive rapper didn’t end there. He continued, “I remember me and Cole would open for Hov/Everyday a star is born, I guess I died in the womb/I ain’t make it on Blueprint, so made me a blueprint/You got you a nice watch, my minutes was finished.”
Wale’s upcoming album Shine is expected to be released this year. Beginning with footage of discussions about incidents involving the rapper and perceived slights against him, the eight-minute video shows the Washington D.C. Wale has dropped the video for his latest track “Groundhog Day,” fittingly on Groundhog Day. Watch the video above.

Samantha Bee urges viewers to push back against Trump — after she compares him to a ‘Gilmore Girls’ character

“I’m not so sure we can count on the DOJ to push back against Trump,” she said. “Remember on ‘Gilmore Girls’ when Paris Geller staffed the school newspaper with her most loyal friends with no regard for talent level?” asked Bee. “Which means it’s up to us.” Latest updates “It’s like that, but with the leader of the free world. After a montage of clips highlighting how much Trump values loyalty, Bee noted that his approach to selecting his senior staff is similar to that of a certain TV character. And nukes.” (Then again, Paris would likely take offense to that   comparison.) But Trump’s actions, guided by what he considers   loyalty and betrayal, are exactly the reason it is up to protesters to keep the President in check, according to Bee. Donald Trump has been likened to Voldemort, Emperor   Palpatine and more than one Batman villain, but leave it to Samantha Bee to notice that his behavior is also reminiscent of a certain “Gilmore Girls” character. Gen. Sally   Yates. On Wednesday’s episode of “Full Frontal,” Bee tore into President Trump’s fixation on loyalty and betrayal as she dissected the recent firing of   acting Atty.

‘The Walking Dead’: Sonequa Martin-Green on Sasha’s mission to take out Negan

So that’s definitely going to be difficult in my mind to get him on board, even to understand what we’re doing, and beyond that, contribute to what we’re doing. I mean, that’s the mantra, isn’t it? And so I am in a similar mindset that everyone else is in. I don’t want to say that’s a fool’s errand, but I think, to me, it seems virtually impossible. Where’s your courage meter at, and Gregory, in my opinion, is at a zero. We realize that we are conquerors, and we’ve made it. I know what I believe needs to be done, and I’m ready to see if we can come up with a plan that will work together. Let’s face it, it’s been a rough go for Sasha on the show. Rick and the group may be somewhat on the same page, but you’ve got to get people like Gregory and Ezekiel and others on that page as well. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Sasha appears to clearly be on a mission to avenge Abraham and take out Negan. You needed to see us trudge through it, and so, yeah, we were just so excited, and here we are. But there is one person who never wavered in terms of desire for revenge, and that is Sasha. We’ve made it back together, and that’s victory enough to give us some pep in our step, you know? What was it like getting to once again work with folks you didn’t get to see much of in the first half? Much easier said than done, and I, as Sasha, have no tolerance whatsoever for anyone who’s going to stand in the way or impede our process or our progress. How do I fit in this new world? So I have very little respect for him. And that mission is to take out Negan for once and for all. 12 for the second half of season 7. That’s exactly right. The big trick now, I’m guessing, is getting all these communities to work together. So I have a particular disdain for Gregory. It took us a long time to get back together, and everybody’s been on their separate paths of, really, self-discovery and also figuring out, how are we going to move forward? That’s what you want everyone to do in the face of this enemy that seems undefeatable. Rise up. He might hinder the mission. SONEQUA MARTIN-GREEN: We’ve all come together, and that’s a beautiful thing. And then with anyone else, it’s going to be tough, because there’s politics, like you said, and there’s people’s intentions, and there’s people’s hearts, and there’s people’s courage. Where is this person in terms of that? Exactly. It was just kind of a bummer in a lot of ways, and you knew that we had to be there, though. It was so painstaking trudging uphill trying to figure this new world out. Her first boyfriend was eaten by cannibals, her brother Tyreese was killed by a pint-sized kid zombie, and then her new boyfriend Abraham had his skull crushed by a lunatic with a baseball bat. Oh, it’s exhilarating. It’s like when I was talking to Maggie, and said, “He’s an idiot,” and she said, “No, he’s actually a coward, and that’s more dangerous.”
And so this is someone who has no backbone, who acts out of fear, and that’s someone who is not a team player, who cannot be trusted, who you can’t link yourself up with because he’s not going to be dependable, and he might break teams. You all were so separated in the first half of the season. We spoke to Sonequa Martin-Green to get her take on what to expect from Sasha and the gang moving forward. As always, they can expect passion and turmoil, and they can expect things to be wrenching. For more Walking Dead scoop, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss. So what’s that going to be like dealing with getting everyone working together on this, because something like that is often easier said than done? We’ve all been on our separate paths doing that, and I think that the first half of the season was such an arduous one. Actually, I have no respect for him. Show Full Article It was very fun when we were finally all back together again because it wasn’t just being separated from everyone; it was also why we were separated from each other in the story. So I’m ready to see what we can do together, and I’ve never taken my eye off of Negan. Hopefully Sasha’s run of bad luck does not continue with her own death —   although the fact she landed the lead role in CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery has us a bit on the nervous side (she addressed it here) —   because this is clearly a woman on a mission. We’re back together, and we about to do something about this. RELATED: Hear more of the latest TV news from this week

So what can fans   expect coming up with the back half of the season? They can expect to fist pump in excitement, and I think that to go all the way to the depth of yourself and of life and then to come out of that is just one of the best stories ever told, and those are the kinds of stories that inspire us, and thrill us, and make us see the survivor and the champion in ourselves, and so that’s going to be very exciting. It’s what you want, you know? So it was a very exciting day. You want everyone to be unified, and you want everyone’s survival instincts to kick in, and you want everyone to rise above. What can you say about her intent and motivations leading into this back half of the season? How willing are they to go into battle and sacrifice themselves for the greater good? Rick Grimes is finally ready to take on Negan when The Walking Dead returns on Feb. You needed to see us believe that we were defeated, and obviously, there were some that never believed that, and then there were others that completely believed that, and you needed to understand that.

Clive Davis documentary to open the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival

Check out Davis’ video message regarding the film above, and for ticketing information about the upcoming event, visit Tribeca’s website here. Tribeca’s full feature film slate will be announced in early   March. Following the death of his parents while a teenager, Davis earned   full academic scholarships to New York University and Harvard Law, briefly working as a lawyer before transitioning into the music business, where he became the president of Columbia Records at   the age of 35. The Soundtrack of Our Lives   joins Tribeca’s growing list of   titles that have kicked off the event since its 2002 inception, including works of fiction by Woody Allen (Whatever Works) and Paul Greengrass (United 93) along with documentaries about famed television shows   (Live From New York!) and prominent entertainers   (Nas: Time is Illmatic). A special concert featuring performances by   Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, and Earth, Wind & Fire will follow the film’s inaugural screening. From Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera to Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson, Clive Davis crafted some of the most iconic careers in pop music history, and now a documentary about his life, Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, will take center stage as the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival’s opening night film. Show Full Article The nonfiction project, directed by Chris Perkel, will have its world premiere at the top of the festival’s 11-day run Wednesday, April 19 at Radio City Music Hall. Shortly thereafter, he discovered acts like Janis Joplin, Santana, and Aerosmith, setting in motion a career trajectory that would ultimately provide “the soundtrack for three generations of American culture” as he nurtured artists like Hudson, Franklin,   Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, Rod Stewart, and Dionne Warwick, according to the film’s official synopsis. “His is an inspiring story that’s sure to leave you with a smile on your face, a tug at your heart, and a playlist of hits forever stuck in your head.”
Michael Bernstein of Scott Free Productions produced the film alongside executive producers Ridley Scott, Mary Lisio, Stuart Ford, David Schulhof, and Deborah Zipser. The festival’s 16th edition, presented by AT&T, runs from April 19-30 in New York City. “Directing this film provided a wonderful challenge because Clive Davis stands at the center of a culture-defining array of talent that has shaped the last half-century of contemporary music,” Perkel said in a statement. Based on Davis’ 2013 autobiography, the film   follows how he rose from humble beginnings to   become one of the music industry’s most influential figures.

Glenn Close wants to play Norma Desmond on the big screen

But the six-time Academy Award nominee says she would dearly love to play the role in a movie version and admits part of the reason she first agreed to return to the role in London last year was to gauge if the musical might work as a film. “Oh, he’s all onboard,” says the actress, whose many film credits include Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, and the upcoming horror film, The Girl with All the Gifts. “Oh, the ‘waxworks,’ I love that scene,” says Close. “And that we certainly did in London.”
There have long been rumors that the musical — which is based on director Billy Wilder’s 1950 film of the same name — might find its way back to the big screen and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber apparently remains enthusiastic about the idea. “With good lighting and a brilliant makeup artist!”

Show Full Article “If the movie version is done, Andrew already has a tune for that scene.”
So, to borrow a famous line which appears in both Wilder’s film and Lloyd Webber’s musical, Glenn Close would be ready for her close-up? “I would,” she laughs. Indeed, Close reveals that Webber has written additional music to be used in a future movie, including material which would accompany a scene from Wilder’s film in which Gloria Swanson’s Desmond plays cards with other actors whose careers had seen better days, including a playing-himself Buster Keaton. “I did consciously think, Let’s do it again to see how people respond, to see if the story is still viable and exciting for people,” she recalls. Glenn Close is currently focused on reprising her Tony-winning performance as faded silent star Norma Desmond in the stage musical Sunset Boulevard, which begins previews Thursday at Broadway’s Palace Theatre.

Oscars 2017: Spotlight on the Best Supporting Actress nominees

Harris is the only actor who appears in all three of Moonlight’s segments—and her harrowing performance is the thread, albeit a frayed one, that binds the movie together. “Most actors, we get one great narrative that comes along in a lifetime, so when it does come, you grab it, you lunge for it,” she says. “There’s never a false beat.” —   Tim Stack

Show Full Article Kidman taps into a mother’s unconditional love. I don’t even know how many shooting days she had, but they were both so ready for that moment and committed to it. “She really blew my mind,” Lonergan says. You feel the love.” You feel the truth. “To know that these women weren’t credited for their contributions, I felt compelled to be a part of it,” says Spencer. Writer-director Kenneth Lonergan, a longtime fan of hers, recognized she was one of the rare actresses who could unpack Manchester‘s broken couple’s history in a few spare moments. The boys handle the cultural adjustment differently, and Saroo becomes an adult obsessed with finding his birth family. —   Sara Vilkomerson
Octavia Spencer

Starring In: Hidden Figures
Age:   46
Oscar Past:   1 nomination; 1 wins
Role Call: Dorothy Vaughan, a NASA worker who combats the racism of the 1960s to help launch John Glenn into orbit
When she first read about Dorothy Vaughan, Octavia Spencer was appalled that history books had ignored the African-American women whose brains helped win the space race. “I kept thinking, Michelle, don’t be ridiculous — it’s Kenny!” Smart thinking. “Watch that performance,” he says. And not a moment was. She preferred the character of Teresa, the kind surrogate-aunt role (eventually played by Janelle Monáe), but after reading Barry Jenkins’ screenplay — and wiping tears from her eyes — Harris realized her resistance to Paula was crucial to why she should portray her. “When Rose comes out of the house in the first scene, I didn’t want her introduced as a sad, downtrodden black woman,” Davis says. “I was unsure if I was ready to jump back into work [after doing Broadway’s Cabaret], but I realized I’d be foolish to pass this up,” she says. “I wanted this to look like a marriage with a lot of joy, a lot of frustration. “You feel the scars. She did so much work on that part. —   Devan Coggan

Nicole   Kidman

Starring In: Lion
Age:   49
Oscar Past:   3 nominations; 1 wins
Role Call: Sue Brierley, the devoted Australian wife who adopts two Indian children
Nicole Kidman has perhaps never been more perfectly cast. “I found Paula a difficult character to warm to because she’s a bad mother,” says the British actress, best known as Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond films. On Feb. —   Nicole Sperling
Naomie Harris

Starring In: Moonlight
Age:   40
Oscar Past:   nominations; wins
Role Call: Paula, a boy’s negligent single mother, spiraling downward due to crack addiction
At first, Naomie Harris didn’t want to play Paula in Moonlight. “There’s this [fear], I think, that if a child wants to find his birth mother, it will somehow lessen the love between the adoptive mother and the child,” Kidman says. And her Rose refuses to let us go. “That scene is a miracle. “And the acting process was about overcoming that judgment and having compassion for her.” Harris spent a month talking to drug abusers and researching addiction, but once she arrived on location in Miami, convoluted work-visa issues forced her to shoot all her scenes in just three days. Everyone cried, and we’d do it again and then everyone would cry again.” Williams had admired Lonergan since he directed You Can Count on Me in 2000. Below, read about the nominees for Best Supporting Actress, and come back to EW.com throughout the week for spotlights on the other major categories. “There was not a moment to waste,” she says. He points to the run-in between Randi and her estranged ex-husband, Lee (Casey Affleck), as a prime example. Viola Davis
Paramount Pictures
Starring In: Fences
Age:   51
Oscar Past:   2 nominations; wins
Role Call: Rose, a wife and mother in 1950s Pittsburgh who endures her husband’s erratic moods and volatile behavior
Viola Davis has filled her two-decade film career with roles that ache with humanity. I wanted [to show] it all so that when the tragedy happens, you feel the loss.” Although she won a Tony award for playing Rose on Broadway in 2010, Davis jumped at the opportunity to reprise the role for the big screen under the guidance of Washington as the director. “Sue made it more like, ‘You’ve been raised, and I want her to see that you’re safe and you’re loved.’ She gave words to things I felt.” It’s that personal connection that director Garth Davis noticed every day. 26, Los Angeles will become what La La Land promises: A city of stars. “There’s not many actors that do as much as she does with just a look,” says director Theodore Melfi. To step back into the mindset of a 1962 black woman, she immersed herself in that era and dealt only with co-workers “to keep the performance as pure as possible.” As Vaughan, she stares down racism within NASA and her local Virginia community. But before the envelopes are opened, we’ve got inside intel on the nominees. The Australian adoptive mother plays an Australian adoptive mother, Sue Brierley, who welcomes two Indian boys — Saroo and Mantosh — into her home. Michelle Williams

Starring In: Manchester by the Sea
Age:   36
Oscar Past:   3 nominations; wins
Role Call: Randi, the ex-wife of a haunted man with whom she shares a tragic backstory
Michelle Williams has only a few scenes in Manchester by the Sea, but most of them are soul-wrenching. As Rose, a woman whose destiny rises and falls on the acts of her husband, Troy (Denzel Washington), Davis elevates that ache into artistry.
